The Tooth Fairy
A long time ago is a kingdom far, far away there lived a princess, the fair maiden was blessed with tan colored skin, and big black eyes that complemented her long wavy blond hair, she was a happy princess that loved her mother very much. She wanted to do something special for her, the kingdom had it all, what could she do to impress her mother? she thought. She felt she needed to do something magical for her Queen Mother so she decided to begin collecting teeth from children. She would build her Queen Mother a castle made of the most perfect beautiful pearly white, these perfect teeth would make the castle shine and sparkle. She would also take the bad ones and grind them to make the road that led to the castle. She began her quest by going into the dentists offices at night and taking the teeth from the glass beakers. Dentists started taking notice that baby teeth were disappearing from their place, one dentists in particular decided to investigate further so the dentist hid after hours inside the office, waited patiently until finally saw the princess sliding under the door and taking the teeth. Astonished the dentist stopped her and asked her what she was doing, the princess in embarrassment told the dentist she meant no harm but wanted to build her mother queen a big beautiful white castle with the pearly whites. The princess idea was excellent, the dentist would help her. The dentist began to tell the patients parents they needed to place the teeth in the child’s bedroom so the tooth fairy would come, skeptical at first, they did what their dentist told them and to everybody’s surprise the tooth would be gone the next morning and in its place would be a token from the fairy. The Tooth Fairy fable began and since that day on forward every child that looses a tooth gets rewarded by the tooth fairy and the kingdom of the fairies gets raw material for the construction of their castle and roads.
The Queens Castle
The story of the Tooth fairy and its beginning changes with every continent on Earth but it exists magically in the imagination of every child.
The tooth Fairy is as real as we let the story be, also real is our responsibility as parents to make sure our children develop good sound oral hygiene habits so only baby teeth are lost and given up to the Tooth Fairy.
We set the example and they will follow
Sound oral hygiene begins before the teeth are seen in the mouth. Dampen soft gauze should be used every day to wipe the gums and have the baby get used to the idea that the mouth will be cleaned.
When the baby teeth begin to appear, a baby toothbrush without tooth paste should be gently rubbed on the pearly whites and eventually have the baby hold the brush, play with it and use it, parents, supervise and follow through by completing the brushing.
First dentist visit should be by 1 year or six months after the first tooth is seen.
Never underestimate the importance of sound hygiene habits, kids will respond and become the adult that will carry on the Tooth Fairy tradition through generations and time.
